Shake Your Booty, Agouti

We laugh hysterically. It’s a great bonding moment for all of us.  Then our driver, Melvin, lets us know that there’s only one rum in Jamaica.  Everyone drinks it.   It’s Wray and Nephew White Overproof Rum.  Of course, we buy some.  Three bottles.

Shake Your Booty Agouti Rum Punch

(Makes 8-10 servings)

  • 2 cups fresh pineapple juice
  • 2 cups fresh orange juice
  • 1 cup pomegranate juice
  • 1 cup simple syrup
  • 1 cup fresh lime juice
  • 2 cups Wray and Nephew White Overproof Rum
  • ½ cup Guavaberry Liqueur* (optional)

Pineapple slices or orange slices for garnish

New Cocktail Origins

Enjoying a basic cruise ship stop in Jamaica.   On the way to the Irie Blue Hole, we ask our driver about rum.  He says, “We here in Jamaica have rum face!”   Our driver sees a guy on the side of the road, stops, tells the man to show us “rum face.”  The guy instantly flashes the most contorted, yet blank expression you’ve ever seen.

Now we faced a dilemma. What will we do with this seriously lethal spirit? We played around with a few variations on Rum Punch.  We wanted something fresh to offset the damage we were doing with the rum.  We finally settled on this recipe.  It will make you want to shake your booty, just like the cute little agouti.

*We had Guavaberry Liqueur from a cruise ship stop in Phillipsburg, Sint Maarten. It was the perfect addition to this punch.  It is difficult to get in the U.S., so you may want to try a guava liqueur or an orange liqueur.

No Problem Man!   This will definitely transport you to a beach in the Caribbean!
